Guy offered to trade his '69 for my '79. Mine is in better shape but both need to be restored. I know the '79 is a better truck but would the '69 be more valuable?
How is the '79 a better truck? Unless you mean for this exact trade - ie: your truck is in better shape than his.
If it were me I'd go for the crew cab. They are harder to find - especially the bumpside ones. Plus Supercab long beds look odd to me for some reason, so my personal preference is to avoid them - haha
I was thinking brakes, power steering, electronic ignition, married 205 transfer case. 400 vs 360; I think a 400 has more potential. I want low end torque. I'd imagine there is more like maybe a more air tight quieter cab. The long box comes in handy at work.
However, I'd like the extra space in the crewcab and if I'm gonna fix up an old truck I'd rather fix one that's worth more money in the end. Never know, might go broke some day and need to sell. If the '69 would bring in more cash that'd be good.
I have a lot to learn about the bump sides. Don't even know what TC they use but I do believe it is divorced which means more u-joints to look after. Do they come both part time and full time 4x4? I'd appreciate anyone's opinions. Should have posted in the pre '73 section. Thanks.
I think that's all personal opinion as I'd take an FE before a 400 any day, and I like the divorced 205 better than a married one.
Brakes, steering and ignition are all easily upgradable.
Again the bumpside crew is more "rare" and therefore should be worth more in the long run.
Plus here in CA anything '76 or newer needs to be smogged so I am all for '75 and older stuff!
I was thinking about the smog stuff. Never know when my gov might decide I need to put all the that stuff back on my '79. The '69 is a 3/4 ton also which I would prefer as I carry some weight sometimes.
Please let me know why you prefer a divorced tc. I just figured a married one was eliminating some parts and would be a little more trouble free because of it. Would this '69 be a 205/ Gonna talk to the guy tomorrow. Thanks.

Personally i like the dent sides for interior... padded dash, non metal door panels, more refined interior, easier to come by things like cruise and AC. The married 205 is the biggest advantage between the two. Non married TC's arent bad... but id take the married, btw the stub shaft hardly ever, if ever has problems... odds are the 69 has a dana 20 or a divorced 205, both are solid. As far as the 360 vs. 400... man, imho the 360 has 100x the potential of the 400 boat anchor. Build ya a 410 and youre set. only advantage a 400 has over the 360 is you dont have to change your tranny to drop in a 460 . Like you say, the 69 surely has drums front and rear, an easy upgrade to go disc, or better yet, good reason to swap in a 60. Both would have 44 fronts. Points ignition is fine so long as theyre kept after, and i believe its only like $19 for the kit to convert to electronic. Power steering is power steering, i personally would prefer leafs with crossover compared to the 1/2 ton front end. As far as both needing restored, depending on what parts are in what condition i have heard horror stories of ppl trying to find parts for the 4drs and obviously more parts = more money.

Thanks for the response. I did some research and suspect it will have a Dana 24 divorced. Sounds like a good TC other than no strut rod support that can be hard on the drivetrain. Seems a common swap to convert to a 205 and then easy to install a strut rod. This might get expensive trying to upgrade to parts that my '79 already has. My '79 has leaf springs on the front; must be a Supercab thing. Also has cruise control which I haven't had time to fix yet. You may have scared me off saying parts are hard to find with the 4 doors.
