Pretty simple actually. The diesel pulse adapter has a connector that goes around your #1 fuel injection line. Then you just hook your induction timing light to the pulse adapter and check the timing on your marks as you would on a gasser.

Ok as far as timing goes ive played with mine a bunch and it definately runs better the more i advance it. I dont see any white smoke except on downshifting with high rpms, like 2800 plus, and its just kinda a haze. It did this before and after i advanced it, didnt change at all. I start it up it will smoke for a little bit, light black-dark grey. and i get the same color when i mat it. With the pump timing maxed out, all the way to the pass side is the only time it would sound different at idle with the IP advance on. And advancing it definately increased top end power, you can feel it and hear it, it actually sounds like its under load and trying (good sound) as compared to just reving higher as you speed up, although seems like i lost a little at idle. If you just let out on the clutch in 2nd at idle it works a little harder than before. It definately smokes less advanced... but like i said in the other post, im pretty sure my pump is fubar'd inside and the IP and injectors have 272k on em. So basically instead of timing with a light or by ear... i timed mine by the seat of my pants. Obviously it doesnt sound, feel, or look like im hurting anything or i would have backed it off a bit. Havent checked into it alot as im having charging system problems, but it does seem to start easier with the timing backed off though. Since its cold and the charging issue i backed it off to around a 1/16th advanced from the factory scirbe to try and get it to start easier, and i definately notice the power loss. Soon as i figure out whats up with the voltage regulator i plan on advancing it back to where it was, about 1/16th or even less from max advance.

Reminder: I wouldnt necessarily suggest this, as im pretty sure i have a problem with my IP / injectors, which im thinking is the only reason it runs this good advanced out.
