Hello all, new here. I've done some searching and it seems like the frame vin should be on the passenger side rail under cab and between firewall and radiator... but when I go to look nothing on the rail. I've cleaned it with a wire brush but there is just nothing on it.
The whole reason I was looking is that I have a 76 f250 (at least thats what the cab vin says) but it has drum front brakes on my d44. And so I've read, 75 was the last year for that. Dont know why anyone would swap the discs for the drums.
So that being said, anyone heard of a Vinless frame? What does that mean? And any insight you have on the brakes/year not matching would be great. Thanks.
I know on my 77 I could only see the frame vin when I replaced the passenger side floor pan I would never have known it was there and there is no way to see it unless the floor pan is out. check the firewall I think there is on there?
well I just scrubbed the frame with a little wire brush until nothing was coming off on the rag. Then I checked with the flashlight and there was nothing there, smooth rail. The firewall tag goes with the cab sticker by the door. It reads
F26YRC31472 (Tor 1) 8-152
YA 133 BDY 4(W or N)AR
JA COMB MLD XLT RKR
CAB
I'm sure it's there somewhere, it just may not be in the spot you are looking at. It took me forever to find mine and I could barely make some of it out. I couldn't make all of it out because years of rust eats it away. Ford may have stamped it in a different location. Another place I found was passenger side rail under the cab. No way to get at it unless the cab is off.

No way you say... until tonight!! lol I found it under the cab after an hr with CLR and a tiny wire brush. Used a rag and wrapped around frame with an SOS pad on it and just ran it up and down. Got a mirror and used the reflection to check with the flashlight. Turns out the Vin# matches the cab. So that's good.... but that just furthers my confusion about having front drums??
Anybody heard of a 76 with drums? Surely no one would swap discs for drums...
i'd asume somebody broke the origional front rear and in a pinch put that rear in.. the 76 is open nuckle dick brake only, you must have a earlier closed nuckle drum rear..
trust me people do dum stuff like this all the time, they probly broke the front rear and had a 73 or 74 parts rig out back and 3 beers later they had there tools out waking the neighbors at 2:00am....
Sounds like it. Oh well, hopefully I'll be doing the switch to HP D60 and steering conversion pretty soon. I'll get the discs then. Thanks for the help.
can't seem to find mine either. my frame is completely stripped of the body and nearly anything else that i can take off. rough sanded the frame rail wher the cab mouth would be but can't find any markings at all.
