Hello all.
I have a 2002 PSD 4x4 auto SRW supercab F-350. I would like to take advantage of one of the aftermarket chips but i am not interested in adding gauges, bigger exhaust etc. for performance gains or mpg gains. Mainly because i already have a 91 Mustang that is my toy
Can someone point me in the direction of a chip that is safe to use and doesnt require any other mods? Or is there no such thing.
I dont want to risk any engine problems with my truck either really.
If you are getting a chip, you don't have to change anything else, but won't get the most out of it and your unknown EGT's may get out of control under a heavy load. At lease changing the exhaust so the engine can breathe would be best. If you don't tow anything, you don't have to worry about it as much. My truck is a repo truck, so I've got a full turbo-back exhaust, ram air package, banks turbo, and 6 position bully dog chip.

For minimalist mods, put an opened up intake & exhaust on it, EGT gauge (like Joe said), then pick your chip. Where are you located?
EDIT: You said you didn't want to put a bigger exhaust on, so put a 6637 filter on for an intake, and a muffler bypass. That will get it breathing enough to take full advantage of tunes.
If you don't want to do any other supporting mods and gauges, that's your decision to make. But if you want some tunes then IMO it is a must to have a pyro. If you aren't willing to add that gauge then I'd say don't get a tuner. But I will say a friend of mine has an F250 with a Superchips tune on it and no gauges, he's at about 200,000 trouble free miles and still going. And he tows a lot. My vote is a DP Tuner and a pyro. Give Clay at Riffraff Diesel a shout.
