So i aquired some bad fuel(unleaded) from my work, and brought it home for my father because he will run 10% in with his WVO Mercede Benz, durring the winter to help thin it out. So I had a thought that on my road trip to try it with my 7.3L PSD and added 5 gallons before i filled up. So i made it all the way no problems, my only thought is that i may have hurt my fuel economy, but for free fuel i am not too worried about the lil bit of loss i took. I will verify on my trip home if the fuel caused a loss in econmy.
In my truck i am running 4.30 gears and 35s, drove like a grandma at 60mps and 1900 rpms almost the whole trip, gps said max speed was 66.2mph. 14Hrs of driving 784miles.
I got 16 MPG was hopping for 18-20mpg
My questions:
Anyone eles run gas in there WVO, BIO, #2?
Any known down sides to running it?
Any other comments or questions about it/general discussion
Gasoline is hard on your fuel injectors. Accidentally running a little gas through the system diluted by a bunch of diesel isn't too bad. Running gas a lot of the time, on purpose, is a bad idea in my opinion. Unless you're just looking for an excuse to get new injectors.
I'm pretty sure you want to cut the WVO, etc with kerosene, not gasoline. There is an Alternative Fuel section here on FTE -- have a look there and see what you can stir up.
yeah my HPOP is weak, i have a low contribution injector, my oil temp sending unit is misreading (causing my EBPV to cycle when warm).
Going 70 (@2100rpms) on the way home got 14mpg...i am disappointed but i guess thats what i get with 8k running down the road. with a little TLC i hope i can get her up a few more points to at least 17 on the open road.
