You can get a lot of power from speed density. The problem with speed density is the system is unaware of airflow changes and has to be chipped in order to compensate.

Switching to MAF isn't neccesarily going to give you more power (just ask some of speed density Mustang guys I've programmed for!). The biggest reason to switch is if you're making cam/head changes or plan to modify it extensively in other ways.

So your saying you can make lots of power with SD without changing cam or heads? How???

What I'm saying is that just because its speed density doesn't mean you can't make changes (such as cam and heads). It only means you have to reprogram the computer to aware of airflow changes. With MAF, because it measures the airflow you can get away with a lot more without having to reprogram.

I guess what I'm saying is two identical configured engines will make just about the same power if one is MAF and one is Speed Density, if the speed density is programmed properly for the configuration.

Question Ken....speed density

Ken, I'm having a hard time getting to you on the phone, I was just wondering if you even make a chip for my 1993 F-150, 5.8L, E40D, Headers, K&N's, no cats, dual exhaust. Also will the chip help bring all other mods to life? Sorry to bother you. Thanks

Its no bother. Sometimes it can be tough to get in touch with me because everyone who calls asks to speak to me even if its something I don't handle (shipping, receiving, billing, tracking, etc.) plus if they hear "double check the contacts" they'll ask to speak to me so I can tell them "double check the contacts"! The average chip call is 15 minutes and I get about 10 people each hour that wants to speak to me.... do the math! Ouch!

I can't tell you 100% if we can program it without the ECU code off the computer box. Programming a Ford chip is entirely dependent on that code. Let me know and I can tell you. A chip, coded for those headers, will certainly help. Do you have long tube or shortie headers?

Ken
is it true that long tube headers increase torque?

Yes. More so on the mid and top end. Make sure you insulate them or get ceramic coated headers. Due to the increased surface area they can increase underhood temps which can lower HP.
