So I have an early '08 350 dually, recently did a turbo back exhaust, AFE air cleaner, and an H&S tuner.
I tried to use the washer fluid and it didn't work, so I figured it was empty, so I went to fill it and it was still pretty full. I can't hear any motor running when I push the button when truck is off but key is in the ON position. maybe I need to have someone else push it so I can be under the hood listening...
I looked in the manual to see which fuse it could be, but it doesnt list one specifically for the washer fluid. Anyone else have this problem??? It worked great before, it didn't ooze out or have any indication of being clogged.
From what I can see the lines are still hooked up to the nozzles. I can see that that they are hooked up but I can't see where they run to before they get to the bottle. not real sure where the pump/motor for it is, it's so stinking cramped in the engine compartment.
My pass side washer nozzle cracked near the hood which caused all the fluid to squirt out under the hood. Pull the rubber hoses off and push the button and see what happens.
I have an 05 F-150 and mine stopped working on passenger side, then driver side too. The guys that change my oil looked at it for me right before I moved last spring. They disconnected the hose (I think around where it comes out pump) and I pressed the washer fluid button and fluid came out on that end. Hooked it back up and they checked the nozzled up by windshield and tried cleaning them but it still wouldn't come out on that end. Is it possible that the hose cracked? I had never been up North before last winter and the driver side did quit working in the way up on one of my trips. It was below freezing and I thought maybe it just was frozen.. I need to get mine fixed also asap before the snow hits but hate to take it to the dealership and pay a fortune with Christmas right around the corner.
They did disconnect the hose from the nozzles and nothing came out the hose still. So I am assuming it is the hose.. How hard is it to replace the hose?? I'm a woman and don't mess under the hood usually, but I am determined to start fixing crap myself as the dealerships now charge an arm and a leg just to DIAGNOSE the problem. Which I half way get. Someone has to pay for the hours to look at it. But I remember the day where u didn't have to pay to find out how much you were gonna have to pay to fix it. lol..
You can buy the hose and connectors at your local auto parts store. It shouldn't be that hard to change the hose from the washe rpump to the nozzles. Just start at the nozzles and work your way back towards the washer bottle.
I would do as john said get several feet of hose and then make it a sat morning project. Can't be that hard to follow it along make some notes for yourself and then just route the new hose in the same manner.
I too would guess the hoses. I had a similar issue with my 08 dually. It took me a while to figure out that the hose had sagged and when the hood was closed, the hose was resting on or very near the turbo and caused it to crack. I didn't notice it by just looking at it. I actually had someone else push the button while I looked under the hood and that is when I saw the fluid coming out of the crack. I would have never noticed the crack without a helping hand. I replaced the hoses to both nozzles. Hope this helps.
With the exception of "87 XLT", none of you attempted to answer the question which was, "which FUSE could it be; the owners manual doesn't list one". I've got the same exact problem. Sure enough, the owners manual says nothing with regard to a washer pump fuse or relay location. The HOSES and NOZZLES are fine; it's the FUSE location that I seek.
Most Fords power the pump motor from a relay. i'd check the relay.
yes...check for power to the pump...if power is getting to the pump..check down stream...next check for fluid coming out of hose..if no fluid..then hose is clogged or pump is bad...if fluid comes out of hose..then check nozzles...if fluid comes out of hose, but not nozzles..then clogged nozzles.
the pump is located inside the washer tank. washer tank is located between pax battery and wheel well. you can disconnect the electrical from the pump and use a multi meter to check for power as someone inside cab activates the washer
also, make sure you have washer fluid and there is no dirt accumulated at the bottom of washer tank.
