Some will say remove that K&N and only run Motorcraft. I've had great luck with the Motorcraft on my current truck but I ran Fram's for years (read decades) on many previous cars/trucks with never an issue. And folks HATE those things here. Heck, I used them on my Cobra when I road raced it and now with almost 18 years on the ticker, it's still running as strong as it did when it was new.

It's your truck, use what you're comfortable with. You posted that you have 3K or 30K using the K&N with no problems. I'd say keep running the K&N and don't worry.

Only so many times I can answer this question. But I will go easy as you are new. You can search at the top for common things like this. Bottom line the K&N is a 2.50 in a 12.00 package. It is made by champion labs and is identical to their current Super TECH filters sold at walmart minus that little welded on hex bolt tab. The BETA ratio is not very good either on those filters for the price. The OEM Motocraft filter beats it by a decent margin and only costs 3.50 at walmart.

Well I used Fram for decades too, based on an old CR evaluation back in the 70s or 80s. I never had a problem/failure with Fram filters either, but...

Times and technology change. Recent comparative studies show that two filters for our trucks stand out as vastly better quality. Those are the actual Motocraft/OEM and Wix oil filters. One recent study shows cut-aways of about two dozen different labeled oil filters. The two previous mentions were/are FAR better in current design and performance than all others.

I only buy the Motocraft oil filters for my truck now. To be fair, the Motocraft filters are available at Walmart for almost the same price as the Fram. That is a factor, in my consideration.

I NEVER saw a $12.50 Fram oil filter, either.

We can start another war about brands of oil! The same CR evaluation way back then said Castrol was makedly better. Not true any more. Most oils are almost identical in performance now. That is, when comparing equal weight/viscosity against each other. But that's chemical engineering, and filters are old fashioned physical engineering.

i have ran Frams on everything I owned for 40 yrs. But now I go with the crowd and just hang the Moto's on my 5.4. One little thing I have always done... fill the filter as much as I can before I install it. On a straight up mount, you can fill it, horizontal or angled, only about 3/4 full if you hit the threads fast and get it on.

Motorcraft makes a great filter. I usually either use those or a WIX on my vehicles.

After I have done a bunch of research on a few different forums, the consensus seems to agree that Motorcraft is the way to go. I can't recall any complaints, the price is right, and being available at Walmart is very convenient.

BTW, after doing research on oil also, I chose to go with Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w-20. When researching oil, I think I became more confused than when I started; however it was worth my while to read up on bobistheoilguy.com. I know people are passionate about their oil, and it seems that most agree to just choose a good brand and stick with it. Sorry if the oil is off topic, but they seem to go hand in hand.
