I heard from an Engineer who is working on the new 6.4 , that it will have to have a Soot Filter. To meet the new epa regs, Fuel Filters,Oil Filter, Trans Filter,
Air Filter and Now a Soot Filter. Time to buy some stock in a Filter Company!
We have Linde diesel lift trucks working in large warehouses. The diesel fumes were bothering a lot of workers so they installed scrubbers on the exhaust system. These are changed every 12 hour shift and cooked at high temperature to clean out. The scrubbers are quite heavy , approx 70 lb and they had to build a station with a power hoist and an oven that cooks out the dirty scrubbers.
The system has been used for about a year now and the air quality has really improved. I guess a system like this would not be very practical for every diesel application but for transit and industrial use it would work.
Interesting post there Wrench.
We have a law here that only electric lift trucks can be used in closed warehouses for that very reason. Interesting way to combat the problem.
Diesel fumes are rarely nice (although I still love the smell of a diesel tractor on start up on a cold morning)
Hmmm... I wonder how that's going to hold up towing up a grade @1300 EGT's????
O wait- that will make the exhaust so restrictive you won't even try to go uphill!!!
So much for having more power than a 6.0L (or for that matter the 7.3L, or even the 6.9L)- hek while we're being stupid let's bring back the Oldsmobile 5.7L diesel!!!
European diesels will be injecting Urea into thier exhaust to reduce the NOx soon.
BTW. Thread moved .
Urea, isn't that the fancy scientific name for ...er... pee? I can just IMAGINE being behind one of those trucks and breathing the exhaust. Fuel your truck with waste vegetable oil and have urea injection. Your exhaust will smell like the restroom in a greasy spoon diner!
