Just for info sake, on my 04 per the mod directions in the 6.0 tech folder (great resource) I direct wired wire 322 and wire 294, worked like a charm she went right up to 1200 rpm.
I was going to leave it as just a hard wire but this morning it was –5 degrees, and needless to say the truck was a bit chilly. I have an auto start on the rig so I sit in the house drinking coffee while I fire her up. She started fine and went right to high idle. She did sound a little rough at first but smoothed out in about a minute or so at high idle. After listening to her this morning in the cold I added the toggle switch, very easy.
I just feel I will let her warm up a bit with the auto start, then I’ll walk my lazy a$$ outside and flip the switch. Great mod, thanks to all who contributed to it. HOOAH
My '04 goes to high idle on cold mornings all by itself without the mod. I thought all of them did. You just give it a minute after starting and I bet you can keep your "lazy a$$" on the couch......I'm just repeating what you said, no malice intended...

Mine does that as well, but only to about 900 or so rpm's, and that’s only until the oil reaches a certain temp then it falls back to normal.
With the high idle mod, it goes to 1200 rpm’s no matter the temp of the oil/engine. So it will be good in the summer as well for the AC, not that I need that up here.

Is there such a thing as "cold mornings" in GA
Heeeell yes it's cold in Ga....shoot, it's gonna be 29 in the mornin....that's cold enuf to keep my lazy a$$ in the house till it gets up to 70ish
I posted a request on here on 11/08, on here (6.0) and on the Excursion forum site asking if anyone had been able to do a REAL high idle mod on an Excursion. This means not the automatic idle jump up until warm but the manual ANYTIME with either switch or E-brake high idle mod for Excursion. Been lots of talk from several excursion people that were planning on doing it in the future, but has anyone actually done it with an Excursion with a 6.0. As I posted on 11/08, I did this several years ago on my 04 6.0 F350, but have not found a way to do a 6.0 Excursion. Any Takers?
...but i just had an egr delete kit installed , so do i still need to flip the high idle on with an egr delete installed? since i have no egr to clog any more do i need to still idle high rpms when in park?
The EGR isn't the issue with the high idle mod; the thought process is for quick warm ups and wet stacking. Wet stacking is when all of the fuel sprayed/atomized into the cylinders doesn't burn because the engine isn't up to operating temp (above 160F I think is the "magic number") thus it reforms into a liquid. Over time all the unburned fuel starts to "stack up" on the piston rings...and slowly seeps by and getting into the crankcase and mixing into the oil....not good

My '04 will only idle up when the ambient is below 40F. Off the top of my head it has to do with the PCM trying to get the oil up to operating temp...but it's been awhile since I've read about that. And yes, the high idle mod works in any temperature and is great for helping the truck stay cool in the summer when the a/c is running. If your ever around a loading dock that has a couple of 18-wheelers during the summer...notice how many of them have idled up the trucks. I used to drive a KW that would "dew over" the windows giving enough time with the C12 idled up.

My understanding is the Excursion was never designed to be a service truck like the Super Duties are/were. The PTO option the SD were built with are for companies that install air compressors or hyd pumps that would be needed on a truck fitted with a service bed. Now wither the Excursion really got a one-off wiring harness under the dash...I have no clue. But I'm willing to beat money they got the same PCM as the SD....they were in the same chassis weight class, so they had to meet the same emissions; the same strategies would apply to both. You would think they were built with the same wiring harness since both run the same engine/transmission. But we're talking about Ford, International & engineers/designers that have spent years designing & building engines/trucks...they're the "experts".
When cold my 07 idle's up on it's own. At work I idle my truck every day sometimes up to 10 Hrs per day. I probably already know the answer to this question but would u do this mod to your ride, and will it effect it idling up on it's own.
It will not affect the normal high idle as I found out yesterday. Mine goes up to 1400 rpm's and when I took the e brake off it dropped back to 900 rpm's. If your truck idles that much a day, you definately need to do this mod, but your fuel consumpsion is going to go up a lot.
my truck has always idled up on its own when its cold enough outside, i just added the high idle switch so i can have complete control of the idle when setting in park or in the summer for a/c when in park or in the winter for quicker warm ups.....when the truck idles up on its own i think it is at 900rpm's, when i flip the switch it goes to 1250-1300rpms.....and yes i would recommend this mod and no it has not effected my auto idle at all.....

Well after spending the morning freezing my hiney off looking under the dash and under the hood, this is what I found, and did not find.
The White/Blue stripe wire off the OBDII is there and has power
The Light Blue/ yellow stripe wire is not in the bundle with the upfitter wires by the parking brake.
There are 3 taped off wires there and I applied voltage from the wht/LtBl to each of them. Nothing happened........
I tried every combination including putting all 3 together and putting voltage to them.
I tried all of this with it in park, engine running and parking brake on and off.
I do not know what they are for but they don't do anything with volts applied.
The other 4 heavier gauge upfitter wires are there also and terminate on the engine side of the firewall where they are supposed to be.
Maybe it needs a different flash, maybe it's just never going to work on the Excursion.
I thought some of the experts here would know for sure.........
It's done!!! wasn't too bad I hooked mine up to #4 rocker and the purple / green wire. The PO had a cut off electric cord wired to the #4 & #2 rocker and run through the fire wall, beside the rubber at the back of the hood and it had the female tucked into the passenger side door between the fender WTF???
I looked for the wire to disable the door dinger while I was in there but had no luck. Time to do some more reading
I have mine set up to a AUX off my remote starter so that i can activate it via remote once the vehicle is running. Makes it nice as i also have it set up to ground the parking brake wire. Makes it nice in the summer if you want to cool the truck down.
