Sync Updates

How do you know if your sync is completely updated/upgraded? I went to syncmyride.com and downloaded the installer. I Have v3.1 is that the most current version? It said there are updates and upgrades. Upgrades come from the dealer. I would hope I am fully upgraded as well as updated. How can you be certain?

Hello JB,

Yes v3.1 is the current version of sync.
I had my truck in yesterday for the 10b17 reflash and was told there were 2 updates for the sync system. 1 for the 911 assist and 1 for traffic. Like you, i saw no mention of these anywhere on the sync website.
My truck had a build date of 07/10/10 and i drove it off the lot 10/29/10.

Maybe a call to the service department with your vin number may provide more information??

Did you install the Sync Status Checker Version 1.3 on your system?

When you do a Sync update from USB, it downloads a confirmation program that you can upload to Sync. After you log in on Synchmyride.com, go to the "Update and Customize" section. There is a "report successful installs" button.

What I don't like is that Synch upgrades need to be installed at the dealer. Think of the update as enhancing features, upgrades to get a new feature.

Speaking of Sync...

I have been driving with Sync since they were available. Never was a big fan, primarily because the I didn't like interface and like a lot of Microsoft products, it was not easy to use out of the box.

Most of my usage has been the phone interface. When I ordered the new truck I decided I was going to learn it -- no matter how long it took. So I took my current Sync and learned how it can download traffic, weather, locate businesses and provide non graphical (text only) directions.

Well, I read the fine print and it appears to my chagrin, that the Sync/Nav combo in my ordered truck uses a watered down version of Sync. Features that are available in the Nav, are part of the fee based (Sirius) system and the Sync has been relegated to providing the phone interface and music management.

For those tech weenies out there, can you confirm this?

I have sync in my 08 Lincoln. Love it. Even though it is a Microsoft product.

Had a lot of issues in the beginning but they are all ironed out now. Did I say I had a LOT of issues early on?

Yes I put the checker version 1.3 the other day. That is how i knew I have v3.1. It seems I do have the 911 ability to turn it on and off and traffice as well with travel link. I believe that comes from sirius sat radio though?

There is a I Pod/Itunes update,Phone update as well at the Syncmyride.com.
My phone dropped all the time. Turning off 911 assist stopped that. I think in the tips is were I read that and tried it.
I did the Sync upgrade check as well. The website has good directions on doing this and other things. If an other version comes out I wonder if they'll post it and we can do it ourselves instead of a dealer.

Looks like I posted a similar post in the '08~'10 list. Here it is...maybe you guys see this on your '11's?

My Sync/Nav unit in my '10 has some quirks, namely:

- I get a bunch of 'P' POI's all show up at random even though I have all POI's tuned off
- There some confusion between the ambient light sensor and headlights. During sunrise, the display will blip between maximum brightness and the brightness I set it. Irritating
- It resets to maximum display brightness every time I restart the engine even though I set it to minimum brightness. It lights up the cabin at night and is blindingly bright, and I have manually turn the brightness back down all the time
- It sometimes sees "1 of 1" songs in my iPod even though it was working fine earlier.
- It sometimes get stuck 'initializing' while reading my iPod
- It sometimes powers up in 'Radio' mode even though I had it set to 'USB' input earlier

I have the latest v3.1 firmware. These appear to be software issues. Any of you guys see the same and/or get these fixed?

Make sure you get the I pod update from Sync's sight. It went threw my Itunes list and fixed some issues. Also there is one for phone books and phones.
Try a master reset as well if needed. Don't know what else to say at this point. Mine is working nice. Motorola w755 phone that is on the Sync list for compatable phones. I Pod 5th generation.
