Yes it will shift fast because there is most likely no throttle position feedback from your carb. equipped truck. The E4OD relies on several different inputs to the PCM to control the shifts. If any input is missing or wrong value, hard and/or fast shifting is a common failure mode.

And will lead to premature transmission failure. You at least need a standalone module and a throttle position sensor to make it work properly. It'll shift for now, but you will burn that transmission up.

E4OD Controller
Baumann makes a stand alone controller for the E4OD, been using one for 5 years now on my carbed 90 F250. Also, Holley makes a TPS sensor that mounts right on the side of their carbs. No complaints about either.
