If I was you I'd stick with the tranny it has, C6 is a very tough tranny. Much tougher then the OD trannys, that and its a truck you're not going to get "good" gas milage anyway.

Maybe a After market OD unit add on? Never looked into one and have no idea if one was made for it or not but that may be a viable option.

Gear Vendors overdrive is one option, basically an add on unit that bolts behind your existing transmission. The down side is they are very expensive, around $2500 or more new. The other alternatives are to replace your existing transmission with an E-4OD automatic or a ZF five speed manual. The E-4OD will require a different wiring harness and ECM which may be more trouble than you're willing to go to...plus I never liked the E-4OD because they seem to have durability issues if used for heavy hauling. The ZF is a strong transmission and my opinion would be a better swap if you don't mind switching to a manual.

If you do go with a E4OD with the electronic control it needed, (After market controllers are made so it will work without the EEC newer trucks use).
Make sure you add plenty of cooling power (Add a large cooler with a electric fan) and turn off OD when pulling/carrying a load, it'll last much longer if you do.

FYI: 1989 F250/350's could be had with two A/T's. Besides the C6, 1989 was the first year the E4OD was available in a F250/350 with a 460 engine.

Thank you,
Good morning!

I also share your desire and a friend of the party that I purchased the truck from informed me there is an After Market OD "Bolt on" unit available from a High-Performance shop in Anaheim, California and I should be able to locate him this week and go from there. Chris, who gave me the information, stated that the unit is approximately $1,000.

If you want to spend this amount then e-mail me: desert1dog@earthlink.net and I will do the research but it will take some time so we can exchange information via e-mail if you desire. I live in the desert and have 1 dog so why not? Ha ha!

Mark
