Planning M5R2 swap to ZFS542, a few questions
I have located a ZF transmission to swap in my 94 F150 4X4 with 5.0. The ZF is from an '89 F250 4X4 with 5.8. As far as I can gather by reading through the various threads, I understand that this should be a straight forward swap but I have a few questions. Mine has an electronic speedometer with a VSS location yet to be determined. I've read that it should be on the rear differential. The 89 uses a speedometer drive straight off the transmission, correct? Since mine has a VSS, this should not matter, right? I'm also planning on using the clutch slave from the ZF.
Any other things I should be aware of before buying the ZF?
Thanks in advance.

The 4x4 trucks had the speedometer driven off of the transfer case, but it doesn't really matter since it's going into a '94 with an electronic speedometer.
One thing to look out for with the clutch hydraulics is the master cylinder changed piston diameter around '93 to a smaller size. Thus, the slave cylinder has to match the master cylinder to function properly. NAPA's website will give part numbers and master cylinder bore diameters so you can compare the 89 to the 94.
