99 with an auto trans..trans is a built trans with deeper packs and diferent converter and such. all i have is a chip. i was wondering what temps are suppost to be around on these transmissions?...i'm around 180 to 210 depending how i drive..?!
With the addition of my TruCool trans cooler, my temps run around 180 only when towing 14k in 100* summers with the A/C on. Doesn't get over 125 empty.
My temp with my BTS and 6.0 cooler, is normally 140 or less with ambient temps at 90ish. Even doing several consecutive hard runs and a burnout or two, it never got over 160.
Remember that it depends totally on what type of driving you're doing, temps outside, etc. Cruising on the highway will yield lower temps, while stop and go around town driving or towing will yield higher temps.

the truck IS due for trans service at the place that built this transmission. im assuming a fluid change is required during that service. if the fluid change is required and the presend fluid in teh truck isn't up to top performance; could bad fluid allow the temps to rise to what im seeing them at? seems if i run if for about 45 mins...average driving, nothing harsh; that it'll climb to about 200 degrees according to my guage in the truck. just putting around locally it'll sit right around 180. could "bad" fluid allow temps to shoot up like i'm seeing?
Mine is anywhere from 125-195 depending on air temp and how I'm driving. Today I saw the highest temps to date, 195 degrees. I was driving in stop and go for 45 minutes in 90+ degree air temps, though cruising down the highway only got the temp down to 180. Time for a larger(or another) trans cooler.

195* is well within the temp limits. I'd just hate to see ya spend money if you don't really need to.
I used to feel that way too until I talked to a couple of guys that explained to me that hot trans fluid breaks down and then doesn't offer the same lubrication and protection that it does if you keep it cooler. Maybe it's all BS, I don't know. I did find this chart interesting though. This is from DieselSite.
195 was running empty on the 80 econo tune, taking it easy too. I guess it is about normal, 80-100 over air temp. Funny Scott, I just looked at that chart, not 20 seconds ago.
