The information below (supposedly from Ford) is one of the reasons the oil level and capacity is an issue of discussion:
Oil Level Check Tip:
When checking the oil level on the 6.0, the vehicle must be on a level surface and the dipstick must be fully seated into the tube to ensure an accurate reading. Do not add oil if the level is above the "MIN" line on the dipstick. Broadcast Message 1512, 1574.
FWIW I have always used 14 quarts which puts the level at almost MAX
that check tip does not only apply to the 6.0 That is pretty general and should be what is used on any motor, and mobey what 69cj I trying to say is what I have said many times. The reasons for changing the oil at least every 7.5K is not really a matter of wear protection persay. I'm sure blackistone says you can extend your oil change because of viscosity and such still being good, but the oil should still be changed more often due to other problems that prolonged oil changes cause. Such as injector sticktion.
