1966 VIN# decode Information

When will the website for VIN decoding be available? I need to determine if I am missing something from the 1966 FORD F100 Pickup.

If you post your '66 F100 VIN here, there are many good folks that frequent this site who can de-code your VIN for you.....

Realize, you'll get more OEM information on your truck if you post all the information stamped on your Warranty Data Plate - which should be located on the drivers' door.

Welcome to FTE

FTE has had a VIN decoder for over 10 years, but it's not worth two cents.

Suggest you do what Barnie says, post the info here. The info will be decoded using the Ford truck parts catalog...the only correct source.

But, the VIN and Warranty Plate on vehicles of this vintage only have codes that decode to a few certain things. The VIN will not list all the parts that came on the vehicle and their specific part numbers.

That jazz didn't begin until the mid 1990's. On these vehicles, when the VIN is typed into Ford's computer system, all the part numbers for the entire vehicle with this specific VIN come up on the screen.

There are over 10,000 individual parts for the average vehicle, so the numbers are divided up into sections pertaining to fuel, engine, trans, body and etc etc etc.

The vin is F35YK791410
Welcome to FTE

F35 = F350.

Y = 352 2V

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.

791410 = 1966, assembled December 1965.

72,000 miles is un-realistic for a 46 year old truck, especially for one that was used commercially. That's only about 1500 miles per year.

The odometers of trucks of this vintage read to 99,999.9 then return to ZERO!

Used car/truck dealers for many years were in-famous for engaging in the illegal practice of 'rolling back' odometers.

So, your truck could have 72,000, 172,000, 272,000 miles or who knows?

PBT,
As I suggested to LDCF250, post the information off of the Warranty Data Plate (WDP). It should be located on the inside edge of the door, above the latch. The WDP information will provide you with more (but not all) information regarding what the truck was originally outfitted with than just with is determined from the VIN decoding. I didn't look it up, but I don't recall FoMoCo ever installing hydraulic dump beds on any '66 F350s. I'd bet the hydraulics and bed setup were installed by an aftermarket / outside provider, but which likely would have been arranged by the original selling dealer for the buyer.

Yea the bed was replaced in 2004 with a new one im pretty sure the hydraulics were not on it originally either. I forgot about the odometer probably rolling over. I got a great deal on it because they couldnt get it running I bought it for $450 took it home and cleaned the points it fired up right away and runs great. Seems to be original except for maybe the clearance lights on the roof they look like add ons.

You cannot look it up, because there aren't any records available any longer, FoMoCo threw them away decades ago. But it's possible that FoMoCo did have the dump bed installed.

This F350 has DRW. 1953/79 F350's with DRW were only sold as a Cab & Chassis, or with a factory installed Platform (flatbed), or Platform & Rack (stake bed).

But, if the purchaser so ordered, the F350 Cab & Chassis would have been sent out by FoMoCo to an outside bodymaker to have the dump bed (referred to as "back of cab equipment") installed.

If this occured, the DSO code on the Warranty Plate will have 6 numbers (instead of the usual 2). The last 4 numbers denote a Domestic Special Order.

If a problem occured with the 'DSO' back of cab equipment, the dealer would contact FoMoCo with the 6 numbered DSO code.

FoMoCo would look up the DSO codes last 4 numbers, tell the dealer where the parts could be purchased and what company installed the equipment.

This same DSO system is in use today.

Something else to consider: If in a rural area...where would the dealer/purchaser find a bodymaker to install the dump bed?

paintball...Heres your F350s decode:
Color:B= Turquoise
Model: F350= 1 ton truck
Body: 381= 3: medium Green crush Vinyl & Medium Green Wicker Pattern Vinyl
81=81A= base model truck
Trans: A= NP435 4 speed trans..ID code C5TA7004AU..if you look on the RH side of the trans case, you will see a metal plate which is the PTO cover, there is an aluminum tag on there which has this code, the date it was assembled and the NP model number(435). there will also be an F and 2 digit code also...in your case, if original it would be a 3 followed by another digit...the one on my F250 says F28...
Axle: 22= 4:83 7.4M rating, single speed D70
Max GVWR= 10,000= trucks max load carrying capacity with persons, full load of fuel and load in pounds.
DSO: 54= Omaha...where original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

gfpilot, heres the decode on your 66 F100...
129= wheelbase in inches
Color=M= Wimbledon white
F100: truck model
Body= B81= B:Medium Blue Crush Vinyl & Medium Blue Cody Pattern
Woven Plastic
81= 81B= Custom Cab
**Note** The B code interior is not used on base model F100 trucks

G: automatic transmission...it could be a CruiseOMatic or a C4 according
to my books
Axle:17= 3.25 ratio, 3.3M load rating
DSO: 71= L.A., Ca...where original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

If you post your VIN gfpilot it too can be decoded...for painted over
Warranty plates, hot water will soften and make the paint soft and you can use a finger nail and get an area to get a bite on and lift it off...the plate itself will be the same as it was when it was painted over.

We can probably guess that the first part of gfpilot's VIN is F10YR which translates to F100 2 wheel drive truck, 352 V8 2 bbl engine (as seen in 172 net hp @ 4000 rpms), built in San Jose, CA (guess because of LA DSO). Gfpilot, if you give us at least the first three numbers after the YR, we'll tell you what month it was built. CS65, you'll probably hear from your friend ND that the C4 automatic was NOT available in '66. I have the same source you do, which mentions C4s but ND told me no. Also, axle code 17 is a non-limited slip Ford 9 inch differential, which might be useful to know.
