C6 question.

I think I toasted my tranny in my 78 F150 4x4. It was rebuilt about 4 years ago, and worked fine, but always had a hesitation when I put it into drive. Like it would take a second to engage, giving it a little gas would hurry it along. Well about a month ago, I got in it to move it, and I put it in gear and reverse works great, but drive of course didn't want to work so I gave it a little gas and it didn't wanna move. I was on an uphill incline so I punched it thinking it was spinning in the wet grass. It never moved forward. Now the pan gasket had been leaking for some time, but I usually just kept it topped off from time to time because it sits so much, driven maybe 500 miles a year. Anyways, I pulled the dipstick and smoke was rolling out of the tube, and the dipstick smells burnt. Does it sould like I need a whole new tranny, or maybe front pump?

I have a built 2wd C6 for an FE engine.

The C4/C6 are very easy to rebuild, and for a beginner wanting to learn automatic trannys it can't be beat to earn some experience. No special tools needed.

Make sure you flush the lines and cooler out real good before putting a new trans in. You don't want all the crap left in there going into your new trans and don't reuse the converter either, there is no way to flush one out and it will be full of crap.
