Diesel E4OD same as Gas E4OD?

How does that compushift thing work, I checked the website but all I can gather is it changes the shift points of the trans and shifts better than the factory computer. Does it allow you to shift using buttons or something?

I just acquired a 1991 F350 / 7.3 diesel.
The PO told me when he bought it new, the trans shifted weird, a Ford shop determined it had the wrong auto OD trans installed by the factory. The Ford folks replaced the trans with the one intended for the Diesel engine. Apparently it's been towing well since.
