This is a question that I'm probably going to look stupid, but are there different types of e4od transmissions? Will a e4od from a gas engine work in a diesel? Can you take a e4od from a 4x2 and put it in a 4x4? Please help me
I have a zf5 so I’m not really the best to be answering but I believe there is a difference between 2x4 and 4x4 transmissions. I don’t think you can interchange them as the tailshafts are different; unless your going to change tail shafts.
As for gas vs diesel, that I’m not sure on
Edit: you typed quicker than me lonewolf lol
not a stupid question.
as already said, different bellhousing/trans case on diesel and gas trans. also different bell case bolt pattern between six cylinder 302 and 351, and the 460.
so that makes 3 different bellhousing bolt pattern trans cases.
then you have the 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive transmissions. the front parts of the trans will interchange, but the rear shaft and rear housing are different.
gas and diesel trans also have different guts. the diesel trans is stronger than the gas trans.
So I guess my question is will a 1990 e4od from a f250 xlt Lariet diesel, go into my 94 f250 turbo diesel
I have a question about those years compatibility maybe it's just the gas 460 e4od but didn't they change the speed control sensor from the trans to the rearend between 91 and 92?.

Yes they did, I don't recall the actual year it happened.
However, if its a 4x4, it doesn't matter as the speedometer cable fed from the transfer case on 4x4 vehicles. Honestly, I'm not sure where the E4OD got its speed control signal from, it may have always been the rearend. The speedometer when to electronic at that point in time and dropped the mechanical cable. There was a speed sensor in the rear axle for ABS purposes before the change happened.
