The parking brake cable is actually 2 cables. One from the handle to a "yoke" another from the yoke to each rear wheel. You should be able to disconnect at the yoke, which would release the pressure so you can disconnect at the handle assembly. From there remove it so you can inspect, clean, and lube the handle assembly.
Do you have the correct manual for your truck? That should be every old truck owners first purchase. That, and AAA Plus coverage.Seriously,I changed mine about 5 years ago, the rear one, more recently.I would consider changing front and rear cables.Good luck, and buy a manual for the shop, and one on disc for the desktop.

You need to remove the press fit. We did it fairly quickly by putting the press fit head in a vice and turning it until loose. Now I have to figure out how to put the spring back below the anchor bracket! Any ideas?
