Parking brake cable removial

64 F100 I need to remove the parking brake cable. Can you replace the cable without removing the slide handle from under the dash. Would it be easier to take it all out to replace it. Any help would be appreciated.

There are three parking brake cables.

The front cable (C1TT-2853-A ~ 80 3/4" long [1961/64 F100/250 2WD]) connects to the emergency brake handle with a clip...then connects to the equalizer bar under the truck on the crossmember.

There is an adjustable rod from the equalizer bar to the link that the rear cables attach to.

The right/left ((2) C3TZ-2A635-D ~ 67 7/16" long [1963/64 F100 2WD]) rear cables attach to the link, then route to the parking brake levers inside the brake drums.

Back off the nut on the adjustable rod, the cables will become slack, now the front cable can be removed.

You can leave it in place. To remove the ball end you must remove the limiting pin. It can be driven out by aligning the hole in the tube 9in the bottom of the tube facing the floor)with the pin and tapping it upwards with the correct drift. The handle can then be rotated to the correct position to remove the cable and ball end from the top. Pry it up and away then remove the handle and shaft to clear. Reverse is to put it back together.

0M-2859 .. Parking Brake Lever Pin / Obsolete.

The shaft the brake handle attaches to has notches. This pin fits into a hole located on the outside-center-above the mounting bracket of the parking brake control outer shroud.

When you pull the handle out, the end of this pin fits into one of the notches, retains the handle in place.

When you twist the handle to release the parking brake, this action also releases the pin from the notch it was located in.

How many of these little charmers would'ja like?

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 2 = 800-543-4959.

AITKEN MOTOR CO. in Aitken MN has 3 = 218-927-2169.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 10 = 800-476-9653.

JST AUTOMOTIVE in Lebanon TN has 11 = 615-443-3086.

FEUSSNER FORD in Freeland PA has 13 = 570-636-3820.

KLIMESH MOTOR SALES in Calmar IA has 15 = 563-562-3241.

I replaced my front cable years ago and fought and fought with it...undoing the cable from the handle that is...all you have to do is with the handle in the fully 'normal' released position is lift up the spring loaded clicker lever which holds the load when applied and push the handle FORWARD!!!it will go to where the handle itself is right against the front mounting bracket.

Undo the clip on the firewall and pull the cable out slightly to where the ball on the handle shaft can simply be lifted up out of the hole. its easier to see with the handle assy loose from the dash..2 1/2" nuts on the firewall by the clip and to nuts on the backside of the dash will have it in your hands in no time flat...dont try to unscrew the dash bolts...simply undo the nuts underneath...break them loose and they should spin right off...

I just did mine this past weekend, it's much easier if you just remove it from the vehicle. It's a half hour job at the most.

Thanks everyone for your help. I decided to remove the housing from the truck. It was a snap. Had it out in about thirty minutes and in the vice. Checked on line for a replacement. LMC for $89.95 to Macs for $60.95. Called NAPA $29.95 + tax. It dose pay to shop around. Necco-2

make sure the length is correct as there were a few different variations depending on the trucks configuaration(2/4WD, WB)

Wheelbase has nothing to do with it, kiddo.

And...there's more inre to configurations besides 2WD & 4WD. Look under basic part number 2A635. While you're there (and basic number 2853) see how many different wheelbases are listed.

Lotsa luck, cuz there is no mention of any wheelbases for any 1964/72 F100/350's for the front (2853) or rear (2A635) cables. Not a one.

Does anyone know if the process is the same for a '57? Going to give it a shot tomorrow, so we can remove the cab from the frame. Wonderful husband just finished putting the new front clip in.

I know I am in the wrong group, but this was the closest post to what I was looking for. Any thoughts or help will be much appreciated. We are just getting back to working on the truck. Must be the AZ heat, because we waited until summer to find the money and motivation.

Still not sure if the e-brakes are the same, but your directions were appropriate for my e-brake. I did remove from the dash, but we are sending the cab out to be media blasted at a body shop.

So, Camperspecial65 - Thank you.
