Good point Debby. lol. The OP has a manual, but the thread quickly went to autos then back to manuals (which is what the tread was supposed to be about) so it was kind of a cluster from the get go.

Sorry, my bad. The topic was timely for me but I should not have jumped in and created confusion.

Have you checked whether the reverse light sockets themselves are any good? Even after getting my switch situation sorted out, I had to replace the sockets before the lights would work ... voltage didn't get through from the wiring to the contacts for the bulb.

My 1976 Highboy C6 will start in any gear and the back up lights dont work.

The neutral safety/back up switch is located on the steering column and is actuated by a small lever that sticks out of the column.

My lever is missing which is a common problem. It just clips in but I haven't grabbed a replacement yet.
DOTZ7B097B (replaced C5TZ7B097A & DOTZ7B097A) .. NSS Selector Lever / Obsolete

The knife blade end of this spring steel lever is notorious for snapping off, or the lil darlin' looses tensile strength and falls off the shift tube.

Fits: 1965/77 F100/350.

There are over 100 of these available from Ford Dealers, obsolete parts vendors. Six dealers in IL have 8. Five dealers in MO have 7.

The largest supply: PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has 19 (888-727-0418 & GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 26 (800-543-4959).

I just bought a 78 f100 and do not have any backup lights ut the dilemma I have is that somebody has changed the engine trans and steering column the engine is a 390 with a c6 trans so im guessing out 0f a 76 or older truck I know the neutral safety switch is gone and i see no wires or plugs for it in the harness or underneath what can i do to solve this problem fairly cheap and easy i have one year left before i don't have to get it inspected any more but i need it now so any advise?
