Back up lights problem
Good point Debby. lol. The OP has a manual, but the thread quickly went to autos then back to manuals (which is what the tread was supposed to be about) so it was kind of a cluster from the get go.
Have you checked whether the reverse light sockets themselves are any good? Even after getting my switch situation sorted out, I had to replace the sockets before the lights would work ... voltage didn't get through from the wiring to the contacts for the bulb.
What year truck? If its a 73-77 are you able to start the truck in any gear? Such as drive, reverse etc?
My 1976 Highboy C6 will start in any gear and the back up lights dont work.
The neutral safety/back up switch is located on the steering column and is actuated by a small lever that sticks out of the column.
My lever is missing which is a common problem. It just clips in but I haven't grabbed a replacement yet.

The knife blade end of this spring steel lever is notorious for snapping off, or the lil darlin' looses tensile strength and falls off the shift tube.
