Anyone experiencing problems with their 4wd not disengaging when switch in a4wd position? And doesn't light when switched into 4hi or 4lo? took into dealer yesterday for this problem(I think Ford shoulda stayed with the manual shift on the floor)

I have a '98 Expedition. I've had two major problems with the 4wd. In the first, I was stuck in mud and it would not engage, despite the dashboard lights saying that it was engaged. I had to be towed out. The dealer said that a vaccuum line at the firewall (behind the battery) had to be reseated. In the second, just a month ago, I had left it in 4wd LO overnight. The next morning, it would not disengage, despite much jockeying back and forth. The "4wd" and "LO" dash lights were anomalous, with one on and one off. At Ford's expense, it was flat bedded the 25 miles back to the dealer, who could not reproduce the problem after two days of trying. The morals: The Expedition dash indicator lights are no guarantee of anything.

Had the same problem with our '99 EB. Dealer called a Ford tech who told him there's a new shift motor available. Since replacing this it's been working fine. We've had this truck for almost 2 years and we've had to make a few trips back to the dealer, but all-in-all it's been a great truck and love owning it!
