97 Expy 4WD inop

I'm new to this, so bear with me. I've spent hours trying find an answer to my problem. My 4WD does not work. Worked about a week ago, had it turned on to A4WD to drive in the rain, turned the car off when I got home but left the switch in A4WD. The next day I noticed I had left the switch on but also that the indicator was not on. Since then, when I turn the switch, no clicks, no lights, no nothing. I've checked all of the fuses for the 4WD, GEM and PCM and they're all good. Checked the voltages at the Mode Select Switch and they are good. Anyone have an idea on where to go from here? This has been a fantastic vehicle with no major problems until now.

Perhaps the GEM became wet from a windshield leak. Not that unusual.

There has been no indication of a water leak; no wet carpet, no wet smell, etc. That said, however, I was really beginning to think that it was the GEM since everything is controlled by it. It would explain the fact that nothing happens when you turn the selector. I've also checked and there are no trouble codes coming up. If I read the manual right, the GEM is under the dash glare shield. How do you begin to troubleshoot this problem? What test equipment do you need? Where do you find a reasonably detailed description of the AWD system and control logic. I signed up with AllData for info, and either I'm stupid or they've got an information system thats not very complete or user friendly.

I'm waiting with baited breath for this one. My 4x4 light flashes, but 4x4hi operates normally and so does 4lo. But the light flicking on and off is really annoying. Anyone got ideas??? I don't use AWD but if maybe I understood it a little better I may.
