While pulling my camper today with my 08 F450 I happen to pull off the highway to a stop and noticed smoke and a burning smell. I jumped out raised the hood and saw the silver foil insulation on fire above the turbo outlet. It appeared to have fallen down on the exhaust. A small fire allot of smoldering and a one fire extinguisher later, problem solved. Just a heads up to try to prevent the next guy from having the same problem.

 

WOW! that had to be a moment of panic.... think i'll check mine to make sure it's still intact!

 

Good tip, don't think I have ever heard of that coming loose. Will check mine tomorrow.

 

Mine hangs down a little. I'll have to divise a way to hold it up there.

 

I mentioned mine was drooping when I brought my truck to Ford yesterday, they got new one on order and will fix it for me next week.
