I have read about this thing were instead of buying a complete k&n air filter your wrap the tubes in foil tape but some of you have said that foil tape is not enough so you need to look for insulated backing. I asked the guy from home depot and said that this "foil tape 322- use for sealing joints and seams against moisutre and vapor on foil jacketing insulation." would do the tick. Do you think this foil tape will do the trick or try something else.
i wrapped a bunch of tinfoil around it, duct taped it all up, wrapped a bunch more tinfoil, duct taped it up. rinse and repeat. youre gonna have to get some layers going or some thicker than tape material that insulates well. i don't know what others have done but thats what i did. i didnt have the cone filter but i had the drop in one and i had the snorkel hose part routed to beside the radiator to suck in the grill air.
I used a foil type insulation that has bubble wrap on the back side. the link below will take you to more pictures of the complete installation.
Hope it helps

Thanks. They had this other one that was a bit more thicker something like what you said insulation that has bubble wrap but he told me that it would not work very good i was thinking to buy that and then use the tape i bought. what do you think?
Thanks a lot 94 XLT White/ Silver 302 you for being very helpful I know what i am going to do so let you know how it came out only think is i plan to keep the tube thats on top of the instead of running threw the hole next to the radiator. Do you think its a good idea
I don't see a problem with the stock air intake, if you do a lot of off roading you'll have less chance of sucking in water. I don't play in the mud so it hasn't been an issue with the intake tube being lower. You will get more air with the one like mine, but it all depends on your needs.
Well thanks i am going to keep it the way it is cuz i go mudding and the beach a lot so this would be better for me thanks a lot once again 94 XLT White/ Silver 302.
Steve83 has a link to an article that Popular Mechanics put out about the effects of insulating air intakes, drop in filters vs open filters, it's all done on a dyno so you can see the results on paper. It's well worth reading. I think MPG Project is the name of the article. It's the reason I insulated my air intake.
