I just pulled the firewall insulation pad from the inside of my 1951. I am thinking about carpeting all the way up to the top of firewall. What would be a good sound deadener/insulation to go under the carpet?I have seen pictures of some kind of foil coated looking stuff to put under carpet. Does anybody know of a brand of this stuff? Is it easy to work around odd contours like humps?
I used the mylar insulation you are referring to under my carpet and up the firewall in my 48 as well as behind the cab and on the cab ceiling. The original firewall pad was long gone and an original one would have required a lot of modification since my truck is not original. It was easy to work with and cuts easily with a pair of scissors. I do not know the brand name. It is a good sound deadener as well as insulator...
Yep, I'm with Vern. The double sided foil on the bubble rap is good stuff. You can buy it at the OSH or Ace Hardware for about $.50/square foot. It comes off the roll in either 4' or 2' widths. Good luck, Jag
I did some testing of various insulation products last summer [posted on here] and found this product to be far better than just the bubble stuff backed with foam on both sides. Take a look at this guys site www.lobucrod.com .
Summit carries quite a variety for heat insulation and such. It ranges in price from affordable to expensive, but they have quite a variety available. As far as odd contours and such, you just have to do a little trimming here and there.
