Engine Enema
Engine Enema
How stupid would it be to drain all the oil, fill it with a gallon of kerosene, and run it for about 5 minutes? would it clean out the engine, or kill it for good?
If you are looking for a good cleaner / degunker, look for reviews on "seafoam." If you haven't heard of it before, it is highly discussed here and on lots of other forums.
Sometimes it fixes people's problems, other times it makes it worse....why would you want to run your engine without oil???

Like a lot of these "cleaning" ideas, you have to be careful what you wish for. The kerosene isn't really a good idea full strength. Most use a mix with oil that I still wouldn't recommend. Marvel Mystery oil or Seafoam would be safer. But, keep in mind, whatever you break loose has to go somewhere. I just pulled an engine down that had been rebuilt and hot tanked. Still found a pill bottle full of carbon buildup pieces in the oil pickup.
I just did the MMO treatment and it did great ....do a oil change and use one quart of mmo in place of one quart of oil ...I ran mine for 3 days on that and changed it with same for a week and then changed to just normal oil ...
first run black like it had ran for months without a oil change .Same results with second run,OIl was black as if it had been ran for months ...I am running clean new oil now and will see how clen she stays now in the future....did the seafoam for the intake and valves just before the last oil change and am running it in the gas now...
1993 5.0 xlt with 175000 miles and 120 psi on each cylinder but one, which has a burnt valve that needs fixed

I usually get uptight over g_k50's responses to these questions but I gotta admit that is a pretty laughable notion. To add to what g_k already said... after you rebuild it, have the compression ratio upped to about 10.5 or 11:1 then run propane and you will NEVER have that crud problem again! Most of the crud in gas engines is the soot from the combustion cycle. But since propane doesn't create the soot, well. there ya go.
