timing cover

I'm taking on a, for me, decent sized project. I need to change the timing cover gasket on my 1989 bronco with a 351 FI engine. As part of this project, I intend to put on a new oil pan gasket, instead of the corners and that black half-circle. My question is, is it possible to get the oil pan out with the engine still in the truck? My truck has a factory cross over pipe/single exhaust. Or should I just go with the previously mentioned half-circle? To be honest I have this aversion to that setup only because I worry I won't seal it right and after hours of work, it'll leak.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Mike

It is possible, but you'll still have to lift it a couple of inches, or so i have heard...

IMO, it isn't worth changing out the oil pan gasket unless it's already leaking. Just take your time and put a little bead of RTV at the junctions of the gasket pieces and you shouldn't have any problems.

Exactly. I agree with leaving the oil pan gasket alone. Unless it is new, I would suggest replacing the timing chain set while you are right at it. I had to use just a little heat on the block to get the bolts out. Just take your time.
