Can one buy the Ecoboost engine in a crate engine form? Or does Ford have the sole control over this engine? Just wondering for this would be a great engine to install in older vehicles seeing how it combines power with fuel efficiencies.

BUT a call to your local Ford Dealer would surely give you a correct answer.

 

I know they have spare engines listed in the parts catalog but I suspect that these would still need the complex computer control systems to control them.

 

with all the electronic these newer trucks have I think it would be a royal PITA to make everything work, and it probably wouldn't be cheap.

 

Ahh...a question I've been wondering myself. I've been thinking about how much fun it would be to have a 3.5L Ecoboost in a lightweight Mustang. I'm sure you can buy the Ecoboost in crate format, but as has been mentioned, the expense and complexity of such a swap would be a hinderance.

 

may be cheaper and easier to wait till the f150s start getting rear ended and rolled. then you can get everything. i think someone is doing this with a '66?

may i ask what is the engine destined for?

96sherm - i was waiting for the 2015 mustang ecoboost but it seems they are using the 2.0? from the focus. kinda sad but they have good reasons.

 

Yes, indeed someone in this forum is putting an ecoboost into a 1961-1966 F Series. His name is Boss9F100. He bought a wrecked ecoboost F150 & started that project a few months ago & he is having problems with all of the wiring because he has no "hot rod" wiring harness. As I understand his project, he's dropping the '66 body on the ecoboost truck frame and fabricating the dash and other parts to fit the new body.

I don't think you did. I slightly miswrote my post. My memory of his build is a little rusty unless I reread it. But, yeah either way it will be awesome if this gets finished.

 

96sherm... Mustang is one of 3 new models to be introduced to Ford's mix in Europe. Do not know what engines are available though. The Ecoboost is not available in the Mustang here is it?

 

A eboost will be available in the 2015 mustang. I dont think they have said which level yet though.

 

Yes, Ford Racing is going to offer Ecoboost crate engines in both 2.0L and 3.5L versions. Ford will announce availability dates and pricing at end of 2012. It will come with wiring harness and accessory drive.

 

Imagine putting that motor into a small vehicle! That would be the ultimate sleeper!

 

... until it gets blown away by a turbocharged LS3 sleeper.

 

The sound difference alone would be on the Ecoboost side...you pull up in a vehicle with a LS3 and they are going to know something is up!
