You sound as mad as the dude in your avatar looks!
Smoke is just a "coolness factor". To be honest, smoke is a sign of inefficiency. To a degree, you can't completely eliminate smoke as your power increases. However, the amount of smoke you have when you've got power mods is a pretty good determining factor as to how efficient your setup is. If you can obtain 400HP and produce maybe only two or three times as much smoke as a stock 7.3L will, then that says something. I don't know how possible it is to do that, but still... you get the idea. I'm sure there's more to it than that... guys, correct me if I'm wrong or add to it. But yeah, smoke is fun... only reason I want it is so that I can level the tailpipe with a Honda that has an Obama sticker on it, floor the truck when the light turns green, and fill up his cab with smoke just because. I mean hey... I'm polluting the air! Actually, diesel soot is a dust particle, not a gas... totally blows greenhouse gas threats from diesel trucks outta the water!
Blowing black smoke or "rolling coal" is stupid and pointless. There is little worse than a truck needlessly smoking. You fall into the ricer category of truck owners. On the same par as the Civic owner with a fart can and clear taillights.
I do beleive the question was "What can he do to get the smoke" Not ask for opinions if he should or shouldn't. We all have our own and they differ. But no need to get insulting about it. Would of been better to ask why he wanted it instead of calling him stupid for wanting it.

I cant believe the lack of comments on the Jetta with the "Coexist" sticker and a stack.
I was wondering what was up with that... I mean, it's a hippie polluting the atmosphere. It's like Obama saying he'd resign tomorrow... kinda outta character, isn't it?
Simple. You just need lots of fuel. I've never seen a truck making big power NOT smoke a lot at first. After that, it should haze up and not be so black. In my case, I KNOW I need more air. 238cc of fuel on a van turbo is a bit much.
I like my"other" smoke tune, the one that makes my truck shake and put off the stinkiest smoke ever.We went to Starbucks the other day,April went in to get our lattes, the kids and I sat in the truck, soon enough the kids was telling me to"smoke'em out",well I oblidged and put it in ole#7...the smoke tune, pretty soon we had hidden Starbucks and the people out front too,I know it was childish and mean, but man what a sight,April come out, trying to keep a straight face and said one guy come in and said I don't know why people drive them stinkin azz diesels....EDIT:I'm sorry for highjacking this thread...
I make over 400hp and smoke like a train. I don't want the smoke in any tune but the 140A. But I have it in stock and it only gets worst the higher I turn the chip up. Its embarrassing some times running around and I push the pedal a little and have a black out behind me and I am in 80E.

Well, what is 2 or 3 times zero? My truck, no matter how hard I accelerate or whatever, doesn't smoke at all. The exhaust is as clean as a gas truck. A stock truck shouldn't smoke.

Mine would lightly smoke... it's hard to see it, though. That's why I said what I did, but correct me if I'm wrong. That was actually before I really started cleaning the truck so I'm sure I had a boost problem. I've done so much to that truck and it's running pretty good now! But yeah, most big HP trucks will smoke until the turbo catches up.
In response to that idiot with the Dodge in the videos in that link posted above, that's what gives us the same crap with guns... it's not the guns or thew diesels, it's the idiots who're misusing them! How're we supposed to hjang onto our rights and belongings if we can't prove trustworthy with them!?
No offense, but I disagree. You won't get black smoke out of Edge or Banks, etc. If you want black smoke, as in block out the intersection, can't see through it black smoke, it will take a custom tune written specifically to provide black smoke, or lugging the engine to send a bunch of unburnt fuel down the tailpipe.
And of course the power level difference between one of the custom guys and an off the shelf unit that is advertised in all the magazines is simply amazing.
What did you expect when you live in such a liberal city? Then again, if you tried that in parts of Dallas or Houston they might just get road rage and shoot at you, so maybe a ticket isn't so bad.
Im not trying to start anything but i run an Edge till i get money for a better chip and itll pour smoke on the extreme setting.
