I think that you are referring to the IDM mod which just adds a resistor to the IDM to increase the voltage. The higher voltage makes the injectors open a bit quicker. I personally dont think that it is necessary with a chip or tuner
Custom tunes can be had that will be just as good whether you have a 110, 120 or modified voltage IDM. If you are going to get tunes don't bother with modified IDM. Or if you are not going to get tunes you can modify the IDM yourself for a couple of bucks. See this IDM Mod Pictorial by Scott (Cookie).
Does it have the same effects or is it in the same field as doing a 10K mod or higher resistance?
The 10k mod fools the PCM into increasing the ICP by sending a lower ICP sensor signal which increases fueling. You could build an adjustable 10k mod with the proper rheostat.
The IDM mod effects the SOI (Start Of Injection) timing.
Say someone dosent have tunes now, so they 140 the IDM, then down the road tunes come along. Would having a 140 be a problem, can it be changed back to stock or is it a one time deal and would prevent you from getting tunes later?

I would just make sure that whoever is supplying the tunes is made aware of the 140 IDM. It may make a difference in their tuning.
