the plate ones actually provided a better hitch view for me.. the tailgate handle view I have 'just' shows the ball, and it is 9inches away from the bumper with the hitch head I have.
this allows the unit to be used for Nav by your passenger without having to be stopped with the parking brake applied.
on the 910 it was one wire move in the harness and connect it to ground. yours might have needed power applied

That was a joke. I installed the relay to play DVDs while driving, and it does provide access to a few other functions. Most head units made in the last few years have evolved past the ground the parking brake sensor wire trick and now look for a transition in the parking brake signal (off-on or on-off-on). I have a Garmin with lifetime traffic for NAV.
With my setup I can drive the ball on my truck to right under the trailer hitch. One try. It doesn't have the distance lines like the factory mirror displays, but my screen is 7" not 1.5.
