First off, what are you planning on using it for? That's usually the deciding factor in what engine you choose.
The nice thing about Broncos, as least in the U.S. or the rare case of a special order, is that they were one of the few that were 100% four wheel drive, so no need to worry about that one.

Big Bronco Frequently Asked Questions

General consensus on the 3 motors.

300 I6
Lots of low end torque, great for a trail rig. Good gas mileage, incredibly reliable, and longevity (300,000 miles+ when well maintained is the average.) 150hp/265tq

302 V8
Higher RPM motor. A sports car motor (from Mustangs) redesigned for a truck. Great for road cruisers and daily drivers. Decent mileage for a V8. 185hp/270tq

351 V8
Low end torque, high horsepower. The big truck motor. Great for everything, but at the sacrifice of gas mileage. 210hp/315tq

Abandoned said it all... nothing to add, except that the I6 will be hard to find with EFI, if there ever was one...

The I6 with EFI was pretty prevailant here in the U.S. I know a bunch that have them. One of my buddies has one in his 89 Bronco. I think they discontinued them in 94 though, just a few years shy of the Broncos run.

I don't know exactly what year they started using EFI on the 300(4.9) but I know for a fact that the 92-96 300's had it. Mine is a 92 with EFI and M5OD factory stock original.

The 300 (4.9l) was produced EFI quite extensively here. It never received MAF but I have three EEC-IV equipped units floating around here. It got EFI somewhere around 88-89 if I recall correctly and was dropped from the Bronco at the end of the 1992 model year. (That should have been a bad omen). But I have a 93 with a 4.9... cause I wanted one. Now if I could only dig up a ZF to put behind it.
