Why is a bronco II called a bronco II?
So, i have been wondering a long time about this. Why is a bronco II called a bronco II, or a "baby bronco"? I always thought that the original, real bronco was not "full-size", but a small suv like the bronco II. I also always thought that the "full-size" bronco was not a "real" bronco, because unlike the original bronco, it is massive and heavy...like a 4x4 mini-van. In my opinion, the bronco II is a much more cloaser to its roots, the original bronco because of its similar size and off-road capabuilitys. So, considering that the "full-size" bronco drifted away from its roots, and the bronco II is closer to the original, wht isnt the "full-size" bronco called a bronco II?

Maybe there were trying to hint back to the Original Bronco. When they redesigned the bronco into a large vehicle it got away from the small nimble offroad vehicle that the original bronco was. So they made another small and nimble 4x4 and called it a Bronco II (as if it was actually the next model year of the original bronco)

Ford called it Bronco II to differentiate it from the full sized Bronco.
The Bronco II was introduced for the 1984 model run. It was based off the Ranger.
The Mustang II (based off the Pinto) was offered 1974/78. In 1979, the II was dropped from the name.
The reason Ford went with the full sized Bronco in 1978 (based off the F100/150) had to do with sales. Never a strong seller, the original 1966/77 Bronco...by 1974 was being outsold by the Chevy Blazer 5 to 1.
Speaking of confusing names....in 1977, the LTD II replaced the Torino. Since the II portion of the LTD II's decklid emblem was hard to make out, many people thought it was an LTD.
Some mechanical parts were the same, some were not. No body parts were the same, so you can imagine the confusion when garages and body shops ordered parts.
It wasn't too long before partsguys began to ask if the headlight were mounted vertically and rectangular (LTD II), or mounted horizontally and round (LTD-except 1979). Some customers guessed...so...some got the wrong parts.
It was a FIASCO!

It was the "Pinto" Mustang. From 74 to 78 Mustangs.
To the OP.........I can't answer your question, but I sure miss my little 90 Bronco II!
An UNINSURED bimbo knocked me under an 18 wheeler trailer. I survived, but my poor little Bronco didn't.

Yeah......Little truck NEVER let me down! Mud, snow or ice!And kept me alive in the crash with NO windows left in the truck.
Edit.........It did let me down ONCE......SORTA. Launched my boat on the river and when time to pull it out, I hit a little hole and let off a little when I should have hit it and the little truck just couldn't pull it out. Not that it didn't try hard! The friggin front end tried to come off the ground! LOL! My Uncle hitched 4 miles back to my farm, got my good ol' 84 F150 and I pulled both out with ease.

The 1980-1986 redesign (same as the full-size pickups) would then be a Bronco III.
The "Bronco II" as Ford called it, was smaller and based off the Ford Ranger, and was closer in size to the original Ford Bronco. Sort of like when a son is named after his father, he may be called "II" after his name. Maybe that is why it was called a "Bronco II."

Bottom pick was a month or so after I got it. All it had then was 4.10s with welded axle tubes and a catback.
Ran a 8.12@ 84 in the 1/8th
