BW 1356 ?

Say I had to remove my rear driveshaft on slip yoke BW 1356 transfer case because of trail damage. Would I be able to limp it home in front wheel drive or would I lose all the fluid. Could it be capped off?

you gonna loose fluid there. Try and use some duct tape or simular to cover the opening. Last time i dropped a rear shaft i just grabbed the parts, threw it in 4, and hauled tail back to the house. About a 45 min drive and when i got home the case was dry and hot. Added some fresh fluid and worked fine.

If the shaft is bad enough, cut it off and shove the slip yoke back in, then find a creative way that I can't think of right now to hold it in there

I think duct tape and rags to try to cap it would be best..

i used to think about this a lot. my 85 had a 208 with a slip yoke rear. as far as i know the ford 208's were fixed yokes, but i didn't build it, so idk.

i left a roll of bailing wire in the tool box just in case assuming i could figure some way to wrap up the d-shaft and keep it in for a ride back home. don't know if it would have worked, but i assume it would for a short trip.

When I busted the rear driveshaft and such, I just pulled it out and put it in 4x4. I don't think it leaked at all.

Same T-Case as the OP.

Fluid was full too lol.

I'd think a pop can or bottle taped over the output would work best. That way you can keep a gap between the output shaft and the thing u cover the hole with. Don't want the shaft to rub on anything.

an empty quart gear oil bottle works great to cover the opening with the help of a little duct tape
