shortening the wheel base (alot) on my 1994 f350 cclb 351 e4od bw1356 d60 10.25
moveing the rear axle forward I am wondering if i can use a stock front double cardian shaft in the rear of my truck ... from what i understand my bw1356 has a 32spline non slip front output,(confused part ->) which has a special yolk to fit the self centering double cardan joint..... and the rear has a tailhouseing with a slip yolk 1330 joint .... i think i understand that the bronco bw1356 had a non slip32 spline rear output that the special yolk would fit on...
1. can you attach slip yolk to one end of cardan with a standard joint
2. can the tailshaft houseing be taken off then attach the special yolk to the rear output?
3. am i better off going to a aftermarket double cardan that will attach to the slip yolk shaft (useing a standard size joint)
4. if i could locate a bronco bw1356, is a swap the best way/easiest way to do this? or another transfer case?
5.or could I order a bronco output shaft and rebuild my bw1356
tldr: could i mount the stock front double cardan driveshaft as a rear driveshaft? drive line length not considered, and how?
BW1356 t-case front bolt-on shafts are 31 spline. 31 spline bolt-on yokes for the double cardan setup are rare as hen's teeth! Bronco stuff can be made to work, but that means lots of swapping and lots of trial-and-error.
Like Pony said, talk to a driveshaft shop and see what they can build for you. It will be cheaper in the long run.
big thanks for the replys! had a truck in the shop today that blew up a double cardan(no grease) at hwy speeds wrecked transfercase, main harness, trans harness, fuel lines, it pulled all the pins out of the ecm plug, also "clearanced" under the drivers seat real well, going to be a $10,000 dollar bill for the full monty fix... i am willing to bet the driver needed a new pair of undies aswell .... new shafts i think will be the way to go front and rear. hoping to make them the same length so i can carry a single spare.
thanks again
