bw 1356

I have an 88 F350 with a burnt up transfer case(bw 1356). What other cases will fit in its place? Are they same bolt to the transmission? and are any of them the same length so you don't have to shorten drive shafts?

NP203, 205 and 208 will bolt up as will another BW1356 or 1345.

To keep your current drive shafts Id stay away from the Np203 and 205. The others should be real close.

Whats wrong with your 1356?

unfortunately.

Thats my point though...

If the chain is slipping or broken and the case isnt fubar then bust that **** in half and put a new chain in there. If the case is busted then pull that little speedo gear hole cover off and send it to me.

If the chains just slipping theres a good chance that the case is still good Most the time they break a chain they mess the case up though...

Either way to the OP dont know what your intentions are for this truck but a 205 is a very good Trans case and pretty much bullet proof BUT if its a dedicated mudder youll have to do a gear swap to retain your gearing that you have now

I would like to have a 205, I know they are good and I knew that I would have to change some drive shafts. My thinking was would a 208 go without it, if I had to change drive shafts anyway, might as well do 205. All the oil ran out of my 1356 and it got stuck in low range, I pulled the plug and it was full of metal. I got a 1356 out of a 93 F150, even when I tried to swap the tail cover, there was no way to put my speedo gear on the tailshaft. The junk yard has some 208s and 205s, I would love a 205 but not sure I have that amount of drive in me to take the time to get all that working.

to be honest with a Diesel and a Dually your not gonna be mudding and all that (didnt pay attention to your sig earlier) and the diesels got enough torque its not gonna effect you but with the diesel i spuppose you pull a trailer or something the 205 would do you best, but im pretty sure anyway you went youd have to do some driveshaft mods unless you went with a 1356 back in its place
