Take a trip to a local auto electric shop.....hand them your starter & tell them what the problem is and exactly what you want...in 2 hours or less you will have it handed back to you, equal or better quality than anything you can buy outright.
Called my local (real) auto motor electric repair place. They said the Denso OEM best, but $$. They had great success with the aftermarket China brand denso and other starters up until the past year or so when they started failing after a short time. Their DX was- inferior brushes in the motors.
They will put a new Heavy Duty clutch in my starter for $75- at the counter. Takes about 10-15 min to be in and out. They will also check brushes and armature, but said they should be good to go for a few years and then some.
This may outlast an aftermarket replacement for $175.
Best solution is OEM Denso from Japan for appx $400.
Got stranded on Saturday, try to start and nothing but spinning starter and a bit of grinding. Climb under the truck (2002 f350 7.3) to find the starter detached from the 2-bolt mount, 1 bolt was laying on ground.
I couldn't re- tighten the bolts and think the threads are ruined, maybe from them backing out and ovaling out the thread.
Any advice on attaching the starter? I don't have any experience with drilling and tapping, would appreciate any help
