Guys, I have a 2005 F-350 Lariet with issues. I seem to have a lot of electrical issues. I lost backup sensors quite some time ago and figured I wasn't spending several hundred dollars for something I should be able to do almost as well with Experience and/or a spotter.
Recently however, my heater went on high fan only. I checked the tech folder and read the info on this issue. I was planning to pull it apart and check the resistor as soon as I got the time and technical assistance. However, in the meantime, I have gotten the fan to switch on (to high only) and off in either heat or air, not auto. Any suggestions? Could this be the same ailment?
Also, now, when I lock my truck via the door mounted buttons, the truck unlocks itself again within about 3-5 seconds. Thankfully, the Key FOB still locks the truck. However, I have had a lot of issues with the key FOB not able to Lock or unlock the truck in the past. Any thoughts on this issue?
FYI, I have about 52K miles, and in the past had some other issues under warranty where I lost all my dash (guage) power.
Go through and check every ground you can find. Bad grounds cause all kinds of crazy issues. Clean 'em, put some anti-oxidant on 'em and make sure they're tight.
It may be grounds, however, I don't have a lot of faith in it as such. When the dash went out, the dealer replaced an electronic module. The backup sensors could be the result of faulty ground/corrosion, as MT in the past few years has accepted the horrific practice of bathing the roads in Mag-Chloride as a de-icer. I don't have trouble with mice or cats or rabbits in my garage, where the truck sits 98% of the time. I do appreciate you input and will check some of the possible points of contact.
The door unlocking itself is a feature designed to prevent you from locking yourself out of your truck. It thinks the key is still in the ignition.
On their face, all these problems don't seem related. But you never know. I had a loose wire at the ignition that is supposed to activate a chime if the key is in and the door is open. I didn't miss the chime, but my low beams would sometimes quit working. When I taped up the wire to keep it from going to ground in the column, my headlights quit acting up.
Now that you mention it, I also don't get the key in the ignition chime all the time any more. It used to be if the key was in the ignition, even pulled out and just hanging by the very tip of the key, the chime would go off. Now, sometimes it works, and sometimes, even with the key in the off position, it fails to chime. This could also be part of the problem.
Thanks for the "reminder".
Motometal04f350: The tech folder was my first choice for assistance. It provided the info when I just had high fan, I have been unable to find any info on my condition.
In my opinion, you are wasting your time pulling stuff apart and randomly wiggling wires and checking grounds...
Buy a factory service manual for your year truck. I like the ones you can get for cheap on ebay (on CD).
Look up the wiring diagram for each system that is giving you issues and then you can find, and test the systems methodically. This is a much more effective and effecient use of your time.
