U-Haul Renting Out Ford Maverick Pickups as Shortages Continue

It likely won’t make some order holders happy, but this may be the easiest way to score a Ford Maverick test drive at the moment.

It’s no secret to most that the Ford Maverick has been a tremendous hit with new vehicle shoppers, thanks to its low price tag, excellent efficiency, and the fact that, well, it’s an affordable truck – period. That’s just not a combination that has existed in the automotive market for some time, and there’s obviously pent up demand for the compact pickup. However, as The Blue Oval works to fill its massive backlog of orders, we’re starting to see more and more fleet Ford Maverick pickups out there, and that includes some now in operation for U-Haul, as a Maverick Truck Club member recently discovered.

This particular U-Haul Ford Maverick was spotted in Florida, and on the company’s website, it is indeed available for rent for a mere $19.95 a day. If nothing else, someone that wants to test drive a Maverick may be better off doing it this way, given the fact that locating one on a dealer lot is a rather difficult task even today, more than a year after the model’s debut. Of course, the mere fact that Mavericks are beginning to show up in commercial applications is also likely to prove a bit frustrating for many.

There are plenty of folks out there still waiting to take delivery of their new Ford Maverick, after all, many since the day they initially secured a reservation for one. But in reality, quite a few fleet customers – U-Haul included – also jumped at the chance to purchase the economical hauler for many of the same reasons we retail customers were also attracted to it like a magnet to metal.

Of course, that won’t be much of a consolation for scores of folks that are understandably a bit irked that it’s taking so long for Ford to build and deliver their pickup. Regardless, it is worth noting that it appears only a very select few locations actually have Mavericks available to rent, so it’s not like FoMoCo is shunning retail orders in favor of the more commercial side of the business.
