Spruce Up Your Early Bronco with These Five Simple Upgrades

Ford Bronco will look even better inside, outside and when parked in storage with these awesome upgrade items.

If you have a Ford Bronco from the 1973 through 1979, the odds are good that probably gets around pretty well in the snow. However, with most regions with heavy snowfall using road salt to keep the roads from getting too slippery, many classic Bronco owners tuck them away for the winter. While tucked away, many owners like to add some upgrades as part of a winter project, so we found a handful of items from Bronco Graveyard that can spruce up any classic SUV from this era.

Popular Exterior Upgrades

First up, we have a couple upgrades that are ideal for anyone who likes to take their classic Ford Bronco off-roading.

The first is a pair of ActionTrax, which will help you get your Bronco out of loose footing. These handy items mount out back on the spare tire when not in use, but when you get stuck in sand or loose dirt, you can quickly remove them and stick them under the tires for a better grip. They are available in a variety of colors and they can be used with any vehicle, but they are a great addition in orange on the back of a classic Bronco.

Next, we have a RockSolid prerunner front bumper that creates an easy place to mount a winch on your Bronco. Shown here on a 1978 or 1979 model, you can see that this bumper includes a spot for a winch and some fog lights, while proving extra protection for the front end.

Heading Inside

If you use the cargo area in your classic Ford Bronco and the vehicle has been repainted inside, you will want to protect the metal floor. This 1966-1977 Ford Bronco rear rubber floor mat is a direct replacement for the OEM liner that went under the factory carpeting, so it will work under carpeting to reduce interior noise, but without carpeting, this mat will protect your fresh interior paint.

Bronco Cargo Mat

Wooden steering wheels are practically unheard of these days, but to properly recreate the classic look of the Bronco, one of these is a must-have. Bronco Graveyard offers this steering wheel with two different center caps, one with the Ford logo and one with the classic Bronco logo, and both will look great in the classic SUV. Also, you can get a chrome column adapted that matches the polished aluminum spokes, or you can get a black powder-coated adapter.

Safe Bronco Storage

Finally, if you don’t want to upgrade your classic Ford SUV at all this year, but you want to store it in style, you need this cool cover. This is a Ford licensed item, complete with the likeness of the classic grille and headlights up front with the model logos on the sides and rear. It is designed to perfectly hug the boxy lines of the classic SUV, which when coupled with the graphics leaves no question as to what is hiding under the cover.

Of course, if you need anything else for your classic Ford Bronco, the odds are good that Bronco Graveyard can help.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
