Select 2026 Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-350 models are being recalled over rear axle shafts that weren’t properly heat treated.

Recalls are just a way of life for many modern Ford owners these days, as The Blue Oval continues to work its way through a variety of problems from recent model years. While we’re seeing some improvements in initial quality – like a proverbial game of whack-a-mole – new ones keeping popping up, too. The latest pertains to the 2026 Ford Super Duty, which is facing loss of drive power and/or rollaway risk due to failing rear axle shafts.

The Blue Oval has issued a recall covering 6,819 different 2026 Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-250 models equipped with single rear wheels and a 10.5-inch rear axle shaft that were built between October 02, 2025 and November 05, 2025, all due to the right rear axle shaft, which could break and result in a loss of drive power or rollaway, even when the truck is placed in park.

The problem stems from the fact that this particular part may have been manufactured without properly completing the electromagnetic induction heat treatment process, making the axle shaft susceptible to fracture. Ford found that the right-hand rear axle shafts, specifically, were heat treated twice without a proper quench. The part – number BC3W-4235-AC – comes from a Tier 2 supplier called Mid-West Forge Corporation.

The problem first surfaced on four different 2026 Ford Super Duty models during impact testing, at which point the automaker conducted an investigation into what caused the rear axle shafts to break. Metallurgical testing confirmed that improper heat treating took place during the manufacturing process, and the automaker was able to quickly identify which trucks were equipped with the defective part.

When the rear axle shaft fractures, it could result in noise coming from that part of the vehicle, or a loss of motive power when operating in two-wheel-drive, according to Ford. Dealers are being instructed to inspect the date code on the right rear axle shaft to determine if it’s included in this bad batch, and replace it if that is the case, free of charge.

Owners can expect to begin receiving letters informing them of the recall on January 5, 2026. Alternatively, they can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 25SD8, or they can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website here, for more information.
