Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen

There’s a new racing juggernaut in town by the name of Ford GT. Coming off a successful bid at the top step at the 24 hours of LeMans, the Chip Ganassi boys were at it again at New York’s beautiful Watkins Glen International race circuit.

The No. 67 of Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe took the top step, while Le Mans winning combo of Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller took second place in car 66.

Westbrook deserves his own accolades, as he was handed extra duties in the days leading up to the race. Co-driver Ryan Briscoe was away from the track celebrating the birth of his new baby daughter, but Westbrook took this extra work in stride by qualifying on pole.

Impressively, this set a new lap record of 1:41.301 in the process, which he eclipsed during the race.

fe375249-a816-45cf-b43c-430b24fc3bfdThe battle for second place was more of a nail-biter with Joey Hand making a pass on the very quick BMW in the concluding laps of the 6-hour race.

It was a hard fought race for them as well, with handling issues plaguing the car all weekend and some uncoordinated pit stops to make matters worse.

Still, they are very thankful for the second place finish, and continued success in the IMSA Weather Tech Sportscar Championship.
