Ford’s Hits (and One Big Miss) from NAIAS 2018
Blue Oval had plenty of great new products & surprises in Detroit, but which ones were the biggest hits? And what missed the mach, er mark?
Another Detroit Auto Show, I mean North American International Auto Show, is in the can. Another couple of days spent seeing the latest and greatest from the automakers that choose to make this show their choice for debuts. It’s Ford’s home show, and you can always expect a surprise or two from the Blue Oval.
Now that we’ve seen what they had for us, it’s time to sit back and armchair quarterback. Let’s go over the biggest hits (and, unfortunately, a couple misses) from the show.
2019 Ford Ranger
The Ranger is finally going back on sale again in the United States, and it splits the difference between the Colorado and the Tacoma. At the reveal in Detroit, however, the new Ranger was introduced with only one engine option and no Raptor version, which was a bit disappointing. But overall, the new Ford truck is anything but disappointing.
The FX4 package gives the truck enough off-road capability to get most people to where they need to go, and Ford’s claim that the vehicle will have best-in-class payload and torque means you’ll be able to get all of your gear there with you. Plus, technology like adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring with trailer support is simply not available with the competition.
