Saleen Sport Truck Revealed Packing 700 HP
Saleen takes us back to the mid-2000s with a two-wheel drive, V8-powered beast of a street truck.
Once a feverishly popular vehicle among consumers, the two-wheel drive sport truck left this world prematurely. When Ford killed off the Lightning, we weren’t really sure if we’d ever see anything like it again. And with the rabid success of the Raptor, it’s highly unlikely. Well, unless you buy a “new” dealer-built Lightning. But just when you thought all hope was lost, we learned last fall that a new Saleen Sport Truck was on the way.
What we didn’t know was that Saleen was going to surprise the world and reveal their new hi-po pickup at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. The finished product looks very much like the renderings we saw a few months back, meaning there’s an abundance of aggressive bodywork. The revised grille, huge air intakes, fender vents, and side skirts are all quite attractive. And very reminiscent of the old Saleen Sport Truck.
The new Saleen Sport Truck blows away the old one, however, in terms of power output. With a Kenne Bell supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote V8 (no Ecoboost here!), output crests 700 hp. Which is a far cry from the previous model’s 450 ponies. The new Saleen Sport truck is available in RegularCab as well as SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations, which should appease the old school truck crowd, too.
