Fuel Line Grommet

Hey all,

I did a hpop reseal on my 2003 E450 7.3. I had removed the fuel bowl ect in order to remove the hpop to do the job. Upon installing everything, I went to turn the key on to fill the bowl up with diesel before cranking and one of my fuel lines starting squirting fuel pretty bad. I removed it to find that the grommet on the end of the line where it attaches to the fuel bowl is missing. Probably fell off when I removed the line from the bowl and when I cleaned out all the junk in the valley, I'm sure I picked up the grommet and it's gone. Here's my question. It's my work vehicle and I'm curious if anyone knows a good substitute that I might be able to use that I can find at a local parts store to get me by until I order a new grommet kit and replace them all. If they are basically just higher pressure rated rubber, could I try and find the right size at a local jobber and try to make my own or would that be more trouble than it's worth? I have a job today that I need to use the vehicle if possible and I can order the kit but it won't be here for a few days. Also, does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy the kit.

Thanks!

If its the parker sleeve your referring to, I've had success with cutting a small piece of fuel line to be crushed in its place...

Thanks timmyboy, is there a certain pressure rating fuel line that I should ask for? I assume most fuel line would be a higher pressure but just making sure.

Cheap fuel line, think..30r6. Didn't have "webbing" throughout the line, so it can "crush". Don't overtighten though

I've even used oversized Parker sleeves by cutting them into a spiral and then wrapping the spiral cut sleeve onto the line and tightening... I had one last over 5 years (100K miles) before I proactively replaced it with a new sleeve, but it was not leaking when I replaced it.

Here are the Parker sleeves you need for the fuel lines:

Parker 60VLV-4 Viton Sleeve (1/4 inch)
Parker 60VLV-5 Viton Sleeve 5/16 inch
Parker 60VLV-6 Viton Sleeve 3/8 inch

This will give you an idea of the dimensions you need to reseal the fuel lines. I would assume any fuel hose rated for diesel will work in a pinch.

I always replace these any time I disconnect the fuel lines from the bowl (or head). It doesn't take much time before they are not re-usable.

Our fuel system doesn't get too high (~70psi give or take for stock) compared to the common rails of today (40kpsi+) so finding something that would hold 100psi-ish shouldn't be a problem.

Just a small follow-up. I got my new seals from RiffRaff, but on the smaller 1/4" seals, they both stuck up in the B nut when I took the lines off, and it took me a few minutes to get them out. The reason I mention this is because at first i thought they were both missing. Both were in pretty sad shape and I couldn't imagine using them again. I am just wondering if you too still have the old seal stuck up there and it's just too beat up to seal. So make sure there is nothing left up inside the B nut when you put the new seal in.
