1. Of course why would i check my 4x4 before the snow. Now i have no 4x4. The transfer case is engaged but only the pass side hub engages. I checked the vacuum lines going to the hubs and there is no suction on the driver side. I checked the pump, it does run. I get suction at the pass side. I just changed the vac lines from the little nipple to the hub on both sides and also the nipple in the hub. The pump does not run all the time so im guessing there isnt a leak but im just confused at this point.
2. When shifting from park to drive i have to go slightly past D to engage the trans and same thing for reverse from drive, I have to go slightly past R to engage the trans. I just replaced the fluid and the filter about 2 months ago. but i have noticed this was getting a little more obvious over the years and now its very noticeable. Could it be something on the trans or in the column? I have read about our trucks coming out of park due to a work column, that hasnt happened to me yet.
Vacuum hubs have been problematic since day 1. My advice is just run the hubs manually, or upgrade to superwinch or mile marker hubs
The shifting problem is due to worn linkage/ possibly a split cable housing. Nothing really to worry about other than the hassle of getting it in the proper gear.
On the detente for the tranny, do you have to go past the spot where it settles in, or does it settle in and just not line up on the dash indicator? There is just a string that operates the indicator and it has an adjustment **** under the column. I do not recall if you have to take the bottom cover off the column or not.
I had manual hubs and did not like driving around with them locked all the time during the winter. so i went back to the auto hubs. they worked great last winter. but its not the hub thats the problem, its the vaccum. I was curious how to check it and why would one side pull a vac and not the other? I can feel the vac on the pass side but nothing on the driver side tube.
also the worn linkage or split cable, can that be replaced easily? and worn linkage where? at the trans or in the column?
I would expect a kink or a plug in your vacuum line to that hub. If you have a heap of extra tubing you can run a bypass line to the hub and see if it works.

I have to go past the spot where it settles to engage it but then ill put it back on D and its fine. The indicator is dead on.
? Your Shifter handler have excessive play,On Our Truck in signature it had sloppy Shifter[lots of movement with handle] had to replace shifter tube & related parts to correct, the locking Hubs on Ours was working in warm weather but not reliable in the cold, even after cleaning, lubing with new orings no vacume leaks as per Guzzles write up.We went Manual Warn's due to needing low range 2x4 on paved Boat launches.
alright guys i went outside and looked at my shifter needle and i thought it was dead on P but its actually off. so im guessing over time the cable stretched and now the needle is off more than it was a year ago.
also for the hub issue, i disconnected the vac lines and blew air through them. now i get vac but i have a feeling the hub is clogged up. when i replaced the nipples in the hubs they were very rusted and one was closed completely and the other was bearly open. tomorrow im going to pull the hub and the nipple and see if there is debris stuck.
for the shifter, get under the dash with a T-30 torx and check that the screws that connect the shift cable to the back of the steering column are tight. they loosen up over time and throw the shifter out of whack.
