OD light blinking!!!! 02 F250 7.3 Auto Tranz.

I wanted to post this info to help anyone who has had a problem with their OD light blinking and shift problems. This past week my od light started blinking and when I shifted into drive, it was stuck in overdrive. When I shift into 1st it would go to 2nd and stay there. So basically I had 2nd and overdrive. I started replacing sensors like the VSS, and checking the wiring warness. Took it to a transmission garage and they told me it was toast. Then I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new tranny. After replacing the tranny it did the same thing with the same codes showing. Then I got smart and checked the fuses. Of course it was as simple as a blown fuse causing all the trouble. In my truck it was fuse 23 under the dash. A 20 amp fuse that was listed as engine control. Im not saying that in every case if the OD light starts blinking it's as simple as a fuse but in my case it was, so lesson learned. Always check the fuses first. I hope this may help someone else in the future.

Good story. K.I.S.S. is always good rule to follow. What was the code you were getting?

As a side note I would be going back to the shop that said you needed a new tranny and demand at the very least part of my money back (cost of parts) and then I would never go back there again.

I was pretty ticked off at the Transmission Shop but I put the tranny myself so there wasn't much I could say but I defintely let them know that they were wrong and I would'nt be back. I think some of the codes were like Torque Converter coast clutch electrical circuit, Solenoid A Circuit, Solenoid B Circuit. I can't remember the actual numbers but if I can find the paper I had them wrote on I'll post them later. I hope this post helps someone else before they take some bad advice and make the same mistake I did.

I still have a similar problem. My 2000 F250 won't shift into 3rd or 4th. The engine light came on and the od light was blinking. The tranny shop said the code read solenoid. He figures it's the pack. Could it possibly be a fuse as well, or would that have read on the diagnostic?

OUCH!

That's another reason forums like these are so valuable.

I had the same problem about 3 or 4 months ago. I fixed it with just the fuse (no other cost). I try to open every "OD light blinking" thread I see now in hopes of saving someone some money or at least giving them something to look for.

If its a fuse it won't read out with a code reader. It might throw some codes at you but it won't say blown fuse. I'd check each in every fuse in that truck. It may not be your problem but it very well could be.

If the OD light is flashing, then there will be a code stored.

I checked my fuses under the dash with no luck. Would any under the hood be worth trying?

On my truck it was under the dash, but checking under the hood may be worth it. I hope you can resolve it with a simple and cheap solution.

I had the same problem, just replaced the fuse under the dash and it was fine. It did happen again though about 5,000 miles later

Did you check them visually or with a multimeter? Mine checked out fine visually, but when checked with a multimeter it was obvious that the fuse was loose in the socket. The connection was intermittent. Might be work another look.

What does fuse 23 control, and would it be the same as on my 2000?

96 flashing OD light

I have a 96 f250 7.3 liter. So a few months ago my OD light started flashing. I found out it was the #13 fuse in the fuse box. Last night by OD light started flashing again. This time the #13 fuse was good. I rasked my brain for hours trying to figure out why. After diving into the owners manual, I found out there is a power distribution bow. Look in the owners manual to see the diagram. There is a 50A fuse in the power distribution box that controls fuse 13 and some others. I found out while my #13, 15A fuse was good. The 50a fuse that controls it was not good. This is the 50A fuse that is closest to the driver side of the truck. So I looked at the fuse and the fuse was actually good but the connections were dirty and it was causing problems. If you have problems check these fuses and make sure they are connecting correctly.
